Thank you so much Better me !!! I had a really great time with Better me during these amazing weeks. 🥰 At the Korando educational center, I gave English lessons, religion class and maths lessons. We also did art and crafts. It was a great experience to teach the children and to interact with the teachers. After class, we played a lot with the kids (volleyball, drawing, songs and tomato, a french game). They were so cute and always smiling. :) We really enjoyed our time with them. We also went to the remand home and mobile library, it was so interesting to talk with the kids. At Better me and in the school, everybody is so kind and so welcoming! It was really a second home for me. We did many things together like going to the dunga hill camp, safari, see the sunset over the hill, karaoke nights, games and so many things… I am so grateful for all that I received in Kisumu 💖 So for everything, I want to thank you !! Asante and see you soon :) (in french we say, à bientôt !) 🤍🤍🤍

When you come as intern When you come as intern, experience in the field (international business for me) and support is missing. It is better to notify the intern when the staff will not be able to heavily support and teach the intern during the interview. For example, I would have appreciated to be told, that there is no marketing team and that nobody has background in it in the staff (ps: marketing in not only social media, it is also the report I wrote and much more). Still, the experience I had with the children was unique and I could go interact with them whenever I wanted which was amazing!

Resume from 6 weeks volunteering After one week of orientation and meeting all the partnerorganisation I ve got the possibility to insert my own skills and offering a kind of strength training with different adolescent groups. This was a very good experience and also a challenge! Especially while I had to work very flexibel and to adapt to the groups with very different levels of knowledge. I also liked the different working fields the Betterme colleagues work for, this makes the stay interesting. Unfortunately the Betterme colleagues don't feel themselves very responsible to introduce their work and tasks to the volunteers. It requires a lot of initiative on the part of the volunteer to get an overview of the different programmes and to understand the weekly schedule. I'll think to improve this the weekly Teammeeting on Monday helped (unfortunately it happened not so regularly during my stay). But I also recommend that each volunteer has one official Betterme colleague who felt responsibel as a contact person with regular meetings and feedback talks. Tom tried this but it was mostly on me to request for it. About Samambos and Calvin concrete work I only experienced sth after I ll contact them by myself. Both work not very transparent or integrativ. Here I ll suggest that for example in the first week of orientation their is a fixed date where each of the Betterme colleagues introduce their working field and when the volunteer knows what he/she wants to do one colleague is the fixed contact person for the volunteer. For me as the oldest volunteer (I am 56 years old) it was also sometimes not easy to cope with all the young volunteers and colleagues so I felt sometimes a bit lonesome because of less communication and less organisd activities, which should be regular. Last but not least the food was really bad. The whole week Chapaty, soja and beans. Absolutely no variation, less fruits or any healthy food like salad or fish....Even sometimes there was no food in the house? For that I ve payed 800Euro this is not acceptable and I really recommend to improve this! I ll complained a few times about the food, so it was one day ok but it didn't least long. I hope this review helps to improve to organize a better stay for the volunteers so that it is for all sites a win win situation. For further question please contact me, best regards Uta
