I recently had the unfortunate experience of visiting this rock climbing gym. I recently had the unfortunate experience of visiting this rock climbing gym. I've been an avid climber for years, and I was excited to try out a new gym in the Long Island area. However, my enthusiasm quickly turned into disappointment. First and foremost, the staff at this gym are completely incompetent when it comes to climbing. It's baffling to me that people who are supposed to assist and ensure the safety of climbers lack even basic climbing skills themselves. Their ignorance and lack of expertise were evident as they struggled to teach the belay classes we paid for. It's not reassuring when the people responsible for your safety don't seem to know what they're doing. Furthermore, the bouldering mats in this gym are a disaster waiting to happen. They are in terrible condition and are shockingly inadequate in providing protection. Climbing is an inherently risky activity, and a gym's responsibility is to minimize those risks as much as possible. The subpar mats in this gym not only fail to do that but actually increase the likelihood of injuries. I've witnessed several climbers suffer painful falls and I've heard from regulars of this gym of people that have broken bones due to the inadequate cushioning provided by these mats. If it was me, I would be suing them. To make matters worse, the response from the gym's owner is appalling. Instead of taking genuine feedback seriously and making improvements, they dismiss valid concerns as if they were insignificant. It's disheartening to see such an unprofessional attitude, especially when safety is at stake. It's clear that they are more interested in defending their reputation than in addressing the very real issues that exist within their facility. I am an ardent lover of climbing, but I would strongly advise anyone considering this gym to steer clear. The combination of clueless staff, dangerous bouldering mats, and a lack of accountability from the owner make this gym a hazardous and disappointing choice. It's truly a shame that Long Island doesn't offer better options for climbers who deserve a safe and enjoyable experience.
