About RISLA

Rhode Island Student Loan Authority (RISLA) is a non-profit quasi-state authority that has been providing lower-cost higher education financing solutions since 1981 and free college planning services since 1998. Also provided by RISLA is RIScholarships.org, a free online scholarship search tool to help match students with local scholarships. Additionally, RISLA also offers the Knowledge for College Scholarship, which awards 50 students $2,000 each to help pay for college expenses. For students trying to reduce their interest rates on existing student loans, RISLA also offers low-cost student loan refinancing options. RISLA is with you every step of your college journey, walking you through the college planning process, educating families on obtaining financial aid, and providing tools and resources that help families make informed and responsible borrowing choices to help pay for education.

Very helpful in the College Application Journey As a Hispanic immigrant mom navigating the complexities of the college application process for my daughter, RISLA emerged as a beacon of support and guidance. RISLA’s assistance in completing the FAFSA (Free Application for Federal Student Aid) was invaluable. As someone unfamiliar with the intricacies of financial aid forms, their guidance made the process comprehensible and manageable. I definitely recommend them.

We got help with the FASFA recently We got help with the FASFA recently. We had completed it mostly by ourselves, but just had a couple of things to confirm. I didn’t realize when we were going through it, but it was submitted on our behalf at the end of the meeting with my signature. I hadn’t actually realized that it was submitted. Our students did not sign on their end so it seems a bit confusing at this point.

Easy online process Easy online process. Was able to submit documents and sign online, got a competitive rate and will have the student loan paid off in 15 years and lowered the monthly payment.
