GBEngaging and Understandable, Amazing! This is exactly what I was looking for. My 10th grade homeschooler has always loved science. Last year, I tried very hard to find him a biology curriculum that he would like. After 6 different attempts, we finally settled on one, but he wasn't engaged. It was simultaneously boring and overwhelming. I saw his interest in science slip away. BUT, I was determined to find a great chemistry curriculum for this year, and Chemistry 4 Homeschool is it! The content is digestible and engaging. Jason asks students what they think will happen from a certain reaction before he tells them. This is excellent! Before I started homeschooling, I was a middle school math teacher. I know firsthand that the discovery method has much longer lasting results than the lecture method. Jason's curriculum is set up in my ideal way. My son logs on to the website and he scrolls down to Day 1 or Day 6 or whatever day he is on. It is crystal clear what he is supposed to do that day. Jason often includes videos where he demonstrates chemical concepts. Sometimes my son prints off a page to complete. Sometimes he does a science experiment on his own (very simple and safe yet still very educational), or he asks me to help him with an experiment if the instructions say parental guidance is needed. My son grades his own work on the honor system, then he watches a video where Jason explains the answers. Eventually my son tells me its time for a test. I print off the test and proctor it. I am the only one with the answer key, so I check the answers and we discuss what he missed. Jason's program is also very unique in that it includes a review before each test. This is what teachers do in a classroom, but most curriculum does not do that effectively. If you do well on Jason's review, you will do well on the test. We are less than half way through the curriculum this year, and my son loves science again! One thing I wasn't sure about was how I was going to answer my son's questions because chemistry is not my strong suit. Jason has been amazing. I just send him an email, and he replies usually the same day. My son has asked several questions to understand why his answers were incorrect. Jason emailed me back and made it very clear in a fun and encouraging way. My son has even had curiosity questions that went beyond the curriculum, and Jason was happy to answer! If Jason offered other subjects, I would be purchasing them as well. He knows how to teach. I'm so glad that I found his chemistry program :)

GBGreat Program with Unique Teaching Method I used Chemistry 4 Homeschool for a high school homeschool coop. It is a great program. I highly recommend this program for your high school chemistry class. One of its best characteristics is that the program is complete; in one book for the student, the chemquest worksheets become notes and the skill practice worksheets become homework. The online videos give great instruction either for the student or as teacher prep. The teacher resources included answers to everything and chapter tests. I also found the guided inquiry method fascinating to teach; when the students have their "a-ha" moments, all is good! The program covers all the topics for high-school level chemistry. The only con is that there is not a lab component, but I easily augmented the class with the myriad of chem lab programs and resources available either online or in the marketplace.

GBHigh quality, low maintenance- simple and to the point. I stopped by Jason’s booth at the Great Homeschool Convention, Greenville, SC. He was very informative explaining his curriculum and in answering my questions. He emphasized how easy and simple teaching chemistry at home can be and ensured that my children would get quality chemistry lessons that contained depth of the subject matter, without my fear of “blowing up my house” or my children not being prepared for college if they chose that route. I liked his program enough to enter his drawing for free access to his program for a year, and actually won! My 10th grade son has been using this program this semester and is really enjoying it! It’s simple, engaging and the subject matter is explained in the tutorial videos that is easy to process. My son likes that he can watch the tutorial videos, answer questions, check his own work and then go back to review anything he didn’t get correct. The videos are to the point, no fluff and nothing drawn out that would potentially lose his interest- he is very computer/tech/ engineering mindset so I needed something that would continue building that foundation of engineering, without boring him in an elementary level presentation of the material, nor being over his head. This program is simple for a mom not strong in math, and quality for a child that is very science/engineering minded, without fear of being watered down. It goes to show that you don’t need a lot of extra bells/whistles and fluff to teach any curriculum at home, especially science/chemistry. I will purchase access to this program when my next child is ready for chemistry!

GBA wonderful approach to learning Chemistry! If you have a high schooler who is hands on and enjoys figuring things out, this curriculum is for you! The things we loved: no long text!!! There may be a couple of paragraphs for an introduction and then the student is led along in the concepts with short activities that allow the student to discover the concept. We used this curriculum for 3 of our highschoolers. My two who are dyslexic but love learning really enjoyed it and even tested well! Our youngest high schooler (9th grade boy) didn't as much. He is more of a textbook kid and wants to be "told". He still did fine and learned the material. I enjoyed overhearing some animated discussions among the three as they figured things out. Another thing I loved was being able to email the author (Jason Neil) and ask questions! My kids were so sure of their answers that we emailed the question and we either got an explanation guiding us to the thing they were missing or a couple of times they were correct and the answer key was wrong. (Jason has assured me that those are being addressed and corrected so this isn't a frustration for future users!) Things to be aware of: I would say that you can't hand this to your child and say "here you go" and expect for it to be a good experience for them (or you). If you aren't familiar with chemistry concepts or even if you are but it's been a while, why not join your kids and learn with them? I do think this is best done with parent supervision. You don't want your child to miss something and then be frustrated down the road. Each lesson is foundational to future lessons so keep that in mind! Mark important charts so you can come back to them later! We usually sped up the videos to get through them faster. We could understand him just fine. *There is ALOT of material! We did not make it through all of the lessons, but I am confident we made it further than I did in my high school Chemistry 1&2 AP classes-and my kids understand what we did cover! (I learned a TON!) *There is Math involved! Students should be familiar with algebra concepts, equations, etc. I believe this is addressed in the Jason Neil’s description of the curriculum because I was aware of this going in. I am giving a 4 star because of our experience with the incorrect answers in the answer key to a handful of questions, which is being corrected. Chemistry4homeschool is a wonderful option for homeschoolers who want to have a good foundation in chemistry concepts. It is hands on for the student and I believe best if the parent is hands on as well. I have used 2 other Chemistry curriculums and this one was the best by far in usability and content. We had a great year learning Chemistry!

GBI took this course over 12 years ago I took this course over 12 years ago when I was in high school, and it was great. So glad to see there’s a homeschool version now!! This will be great to use with kids. The guided inquiry is extremely valuable. Very well-designed!
