In Nigeria in particular, the situation is getting out of hand, as many poultry farms are shutting down as a result of sharp increase in cost of poultry inputs caused by the sudden removal of fuel subsidy. The embargo placed on the importation of maize by the last Administration is another reason for the hike in the cost of livestock feed. This is because, Nigeria as a country is not self sufficient in the production of maize, which is the main raw material in the formulation of livestock feeds. Therefore, any deliberate attempt by Government to quickly lift the embargo on the importation of maize, address the problem of fuel subsidy are pathways to restoring the glorious days of the Poultry Industry in Nigeria and the world in general.
