USSpeakMeister is an excellent way to practice your public speaking I've always been a bit reserved when it comes to public speaking, so I've been looking for ways to try and improve. I came across SpeakMeister, which branded itself as a social media community with access to coaching and tips from professional speakers. It seemed pretty cool, so I decided to join. Since joining, I have really been able to improve my speaking. The site is really comprehensive and has a lot of features for all different areas of speaking. It doesn't matter if you have social anxiety disorder, fear of public speaking, or have a wedding speech or work presentation coming up - they can help you with it all. The website itself is set up a lot like Facebook, meaning that you can make friends, post updates in your news feed, and share videos and tips. Perhaps one of my favorite parts of the site is this community building experience that unites everyone together with the same motivation - to improve their speaking. They also have a cool feature called Tutorials. These are short video challenges that teach you how to perform certain speaking tasks. After watching an example one, you have to film your own. Then, you can get feedback from other users who give you tips and encouragement. There are also Groups you can join that function mostly like Facebook groups in that they are all dedicated to a certain subject. What's better than Facebook though is that they are also fully-fledged forums that allow for video conferencing. I'm a member of a few clubs that virtually meet every so often in order to practice speaking and go over helpful exercises. That part has been so helpful. Other features on the site include a Yahoo Answers type Q&A, a Reddit type "Ask Me Anything" section, and an Expert Marketplace where you can actually get hands-on coaching from certified experts in the field. I haven't really tried this personalized coaching yet, as it does cost money. However, I definitely think it would be worthwhile - I'm just waiting until I find a coach that is specific to my needs. Everything else on the site is free, by the way, so you really can't beat it! I'd definitely recommend trying SpeakMeister if you have any sort of reservations about speaking in public or want to improve your position at work. Whatever you need, the community is really friendly and will offer up suggestions and expert knowledge on how to help you get better at speaking.
