About Discovery Voyages

Offering high quality 3 - 6 day cruises with a maximum of 12 guests on the historic Discovery in beautiful Prince William Sound, Alaska (just south of the largest Alaskan city, Anchorage). We do offer a handful of trips that incorporate Denali National Park as well. Prince William Sound encompasses 3,800 miles of coastline to explore via kayak and foot. The Sound is home to the densest concentration of tidewater glaciers in the world, containing 50 glaciers and 17 tidewater glaciers (touching the ocean), known for dramatically calving huge ice chunks into the sea. Enjoy spectacular views from sea level up to 13,000 ft mountain peaks. More than 220 species of birds (and around 200,000 seabirds summer in the Sound), along with 30 species of land mammals, and at least a dozen marine mammal species make this area quite special. Resident marine mammals include humpback, sei, fin, minke, killer whales, and dall's porpoise as well as Steller sea lions, harbor seals, and sea otters. In western Prince William Sound, black bears may be seen on narrow beaches and are most often seen fishing when the salmon are spawning.

Must do small adventure cruise Our family of seven wanted an adventure where we could get as close as possible to Alaskan flora and fauna while still enjoying the delights of a hot shower, a warm bed and gourmet food and wine. Meg and Dean of Discovery Voyages deliver this and so much more. Days were spent kayaking up to the face of a calving glacier, hiking along bear trails picking blueberries and salmonberries - sometimes on a whim to find a lake that Dean may have hiked to 10 or more years ago - and traversing extraordinary terrain in search of the picture perfect views. Meg produced the most beautiful meals out of her tiny galley - so much fresh food complimented by a wonderful array of wines (and beers). Highly recommended for those who want experience nature first hand without the crowds with a touch of luxury.

A Family Adventure This was truly an adventure of a lifetime! Being on a six cabin boat allowed views and experiences that you could never get from a cruise liner. Dean, Megan & crew were amazing. We saw up close so much wildlife & learned so much about Prince William Sound. Megan provided unbelievable gourmet meals & were beautifully presented. The scenery, kayaking, and hiking was outstanding. Memories for a lifetime! Thank you Discovery!

I enjoyed the guides and was very… I enjoyed the guides and was very impressed with the amount of information they gave us. The food was wonderful. My only complaint was that we were not told that the Orca and wales were only seen in early spring. I may have booked an earlier trip had I known that. Perhaps you could inform people what animals they are most likely to see depending on the time of year.

The trip of a lifetime! The owners of the Discovery, Dean and Meg, were so accommodating and helpful. Dean got a sense for what the group wanted to do and tried to cater to everyone's interest and activity level. The two guides, Phyllis and Hugh, were extremely knowledgeable and fun to be around. We did a lot, saw a lot, learned a lot, and in general had an amazing week. Meg worked her magic for three meals a day in the kitchen and the food was fantastic with lots of fresh seafood and accommodations for everyone's dietary restrictions. I loved that there was a lot of quiet time to read or sit outside and take in the magnificent scenery. I would highly recommend this trip for anyone who is okay staying on a small boat. My husband and I are not large people and we are reasonably fit so we were fine. But it would not work well for someone who has difficulty with stairs or climbing into a bunk bed.

Great adventure. Worth it! I loved every minute of our adventure. The weather was less than desirable, but I don’t think we missed a thing. Our chef, Meg, was creative and patient. There were eleven of us, and she pleased everyone. The adventures, included kayaking, photographing amazing wildlife, walking among the glaciers, and learning do much about Prince William Sound. The nature aspect of this trip was beyond beautiful. As a side note, the group we were with was terrific. We all got along great, chatted the entire time, and played a memorable game. Would I do this again? In a minute.
