Changed way of thinking As a Flight medic/ ground medic, I have had several autistic patients over the years and I never had a true understanding of what a person with autism really went through. This class was very informative and changed my view on how to handle situations with them. I had flown out a 2 year old autistic girl that drowned in a pond, her dad found her in less than 5 minutes, she was unresponsive and lifeless, he had just taken his first CPR class a couple months prior and was able to resuscitate her. She is thriving without any long term deficits from the incident. Had he not been trained, the situation would have gone very differently. He turned his back for less than 5 minutes to wash some dishes, and she broke through the screen in the window and went straight for the pond on their property. It is a call I will always remember and an example I use when I teach my CPR classes to the public on its importance.

Learning from a Peer with Real Experience I think Jerry having real-life parenting experience and also bringing the LEO perspective to the table was a plus. He used humor as well as other emotions to captivate me. He did not try to downplay either role or point out either as the correct party. He represented both sides and tried to help us find a solution. I thought this training was fantastic!

I learned a lot I had not previously… I learned a lot I had not previously heard about autism. Especially about the 'why' of different behaviors. The class was very well prepared and presented.

Baker County Florida Capt. Turning's presentation is spot-on for First Responders. He gives a great working definition of what Autism is and how it affects people. He also gives great instructions/recommendations for first responders. Having been involved in searching for missing persons with autism, I'm glad I took the class. I feel much more confident in my future encounters with people with autism.

I feel more confident I learned behavioral ques which i wasn't familiar with before. I had heard of stimming before as well but didn't know what it meant. Thanks to StreetCopTraning who encouraged Capt. Gerald to give out a few free courses. Half of my agency has already signed up for the training.
