About Beyond BookSmart

The nation’s leader in Executive Function coaching has been serving clients since 2006. Beyond BookSmart works with students and our WorkSmart Coaching division focuses on serving adults. Executive function coaching teaches students and adults how to organize, plan, prioritize, manage time, maintain focus, self-assess, and study efficiently. Self-management skills are increasingly important in a complex world with many distractions and competing priorities. People who learn these skills are better equipped to navigate the challenges of school and adult life. Many of our clients are bright, capable individuals in late elementary school to adults of all ages who are not achieving their potential as a result of ineffective work habits. Some have diagnoses such as ADHD or other learning differences and see coaching as excellent additional support to school-based interventions. Some of our clients have emotional challenges such as anxiety which impact their ability to work effectively. Other clients we work with have no formal diagnoses yet benefit from learning more effective ways to manage their academic or workplace demands. Our coaches work 1:1 online to help people learn how to manage their time, attention, effort, and emotions, as well as stay organized, plan and prioritize, self-advocate, and become more self-aware. Using our deep understanding of the nature of behavior change, our coaches help clients discover their own motivation to become more effective at school or at work. All of our coaches have master’s level degrees or higher (or equivalent) and have been rigorously vetted and trained, with access to over 400 tools and strategies to customize each client’s experience, according to their needs and preferences.

Hit or Miss The effectiveness depends on who the coach is, rather than the BBS system per se. BBS does have a pre-match process, but it is not possible for prospective clients to get a good feel for the competence of the coach. We got a coach for my son the summer before going to college and he had the same coach through the first half of the Fall Semester - there was no discernible improvement and the session reports by the coach were generic (even though our son had signed for us to have access to it), making it difficult to figure out what's not working. I will give this coach a ZERO STAR. Then he got a new coach (this time we knew how to evaluate better), and within a few sessions, the difference was like night & day. In addition, the change continues to improve. This 2nd coach deserves FIVE STARS.

grateful! I got matched up with a coach I feel is a good suit for me. I'm studying in the UK and the university system runs slightly differently from the US college system especially when it comes to the course I'm doing(dentistry; we don't do pre-med here and have different exam schedules). Sarah is wonderful and has imparted some really useful tips and tricks on me so far and I hope I'll be able to improve as I go forward :) It's also nice to check in with someone who's like a wellbeing tutor every week.

Beyond Booksmart was a life-saver for… Beyond Booksmart was a life-saver for my daughter during the first few years of high school. They matched her with a coach that was just perfect for her and helped organize herself, her schoolwork and her thoughts so she was able to tackle her challenges head-on. And early in her senior year, we brought BBS back on for a few months to help with the college application deadlines and they made it so simple for us to jump back in and then cancel when the services were no longer needed. I can't recommend them enough.

It's Been A Good Piece of A Complicated Story Our YA child has been working with a wonderful coach for several years. They have established a valuable, trusting relationship, that has really helped our child articulate and face numerous challenges. As a parent, I have appreciated the candor and clarity of the subsequent reports. Often they have provided me with an opportunity to explore certain questions with my child in a way that is direct but not adversarial.
