Multiple "unsubscribe" requests ignored Despite multiple requests to unsubscribe from "is this publication yours?" emails, they keep coming. This has been going on for six months. It is spamming now, pure and simple. Academia.edu is not respecting the notification choices of their customer base - and they are also breaking UK law by doing this!

They kept spamming me for years… They kept spamming me for years (luckily just my garbage account), until I finally lost it and sent them an email telling them to delete my account and all my information. No answer – but they did double down on their spam messages. At least one email in January EVERY DAY. No thanks. 1 star well deserved.

Avoid Academia! Avoid Academia!! They cheat customers. They will increase your suscription without previous notice and without your acceptance. Answering Academia: Even if you send an email you cannot change suscription without customer approval. I already contacted your “support” team and they said they cannot do anything, just suggested to cancel my membership, which i did. Too late now. Academia is a scam! You only hace to see your 1.5stars in Truepilot. Hopefully you’ll disappear soon

Thieving spivs These spivs withdrew €214,80 from my credit card account without my permission nor knowledge. I have never signed up to any of their services and only accessed their site to read scientific papers that they make available free. Some were interesting but over the years I've downloaded less than a dozen - all allegedly free. I am puzzled how they gained access to my credit card account. I am considering legal action.

I am absolutely outraged that I have… I am absolutely outraged that I have been charged £166.80 for a Premium subscription. I mistakenly signed up for Academia Premium last year (at the time it was £69). In that time, most of the mentions have been for another academic with a similar name to me, so pretty much the service has been rubbish. I have just looked through my emails and have located an email sent on 8 March, which advised me that subcription charges would be going up, but there is absolutely no option in the email to cancel this. Now, I have just tried to log in to my account and it says there is a problem, so I cannot even cancel the subscription to ensure this never happens again. I will take this further if Academia edu do not refund my subscription. I am appalled that this sort of company has sway in the academic community.
