First Time Author… As a first time author Ryan and Emma were so patient with me. I had numerous questions and doubts at times but they reassured me, answered my concerns, and were very supportive. I learned so much through their expertise!

Communication With Your Team is Key! I had a fairly good rapport with my publishing team. They did great work with the cover. They listened to my suggestions. Every now and then I'd be curious about something, and I would have to be proactive about inquiring what something means, or why something was done the way it was. I would have liked to have been kept in the loop a little better (e.g., why certain decisions were made, etc). But all in all communication was good. Also, I am an amateur at editing and formatting. It is an area I needed much help in, but I ended up having to do some of the work in recognizing whether footnotes were done correctly. I noticed that they weren't consistent the way I wrote them. So, I had to speak up about making sure we standardized them. But aside from a few areas where I felt I was on my own with respect to catching formatting mistakes, the team did a wonderful job!

The cover art, the editing, the marketing and all the continued follow -up. As any writer knows we are not in this alone. It takes a project manager, in my case Chris Young,as well as a marketing and design team to put together the art work that breathes a visual experience into the written words. And it also takes a dedicated editor who knows your characters, maybe even better than you do. The writer and the editor have uniquely different perspectives at times, which I have learned are not necessarily in conflict with each other but compliment each other. All of these components come together through what at times seems such a long process but in the end you have finished product to be proud of and that is what matters. I never felt hurried or that I was asking for too much. And as far as the cost goes. In my experience I never felt I paid too much, on the contrary I feel that the marketing team went the extra yard to make my experience affordable.
