CABest experience I’ve had with US taxes I have been filing US taxes from Canada for more than 40 years. I’ve done pen and paper returns, used accountants, and used other programs. ExpatFile was the easiest experience I’ve had by far. The questions are clear, and unlike other programs, they don’t leave the user to try to figure out how foreign data fits onto American forms! And you don’t need a U.S. billing address to pay.

AUeasy glide through tax filing from… easy glide through tax filing from overseas - done super fast and without headaches. Living in Australia for 10 years, I've tried to file through the normal services focus on residing US citizens but always found it wouldn't accept some aspect of my filing, like an error on the form due to my foreign husband's lack of a SSN. Expatfile cuts through all that and my taxes are done quickly and painlessly... plus the year on year loyalty credit is a nice bonus!

GBLots of inadequacy with Expatfile I spent hours trying to navigate and get my taxes done properly. Unfortunately it was not until the end of the process that I found out that the software did not have the capability to fill out specific forms like 1099NEC and 1099MISC. That made the software think that my income was from a foreign source and it really complicated things and slapped some uneccesary forms in the mix. No place to claim vehicle expenses in a detail way and I just did not feel like it was filing my return the right way and I was right about that. I heard someone say Turbotax is terrible for filing expat returns and that is definitely not true. I switched to Turbotax online and it did a great job, answered all my questions, and guided me with unfamiliar things the whole time. It was even able to take care of the partial residence in the US with transitional things like health care premiums etc. I think that Expat might be good for very simple returns but be very careful because if you cannot enter the 1099 forms properly, it will think the all the your income is from foreign source just because you live in a foreign country. That would be a bumper because you will end up having to use the foreign earned income exclusion and forms like that. In Expat there was also no place to enter IRA contributions as well and people living overseas are entitled to that deduction. The refund that expatfile showed me was a lot less than what I got with Turbotax. Something like a $500 difference.

DEGreat Service. Easy-to-use tax program even for more detailed returns. They find you tax credits and exemptions that you are eligible for and get your return submitted and approved quickly. I will definitely use again and recommend to other Ex-pats. Thank you Expatfile.
