Mercari's New Policy Sucks :)! I've had Mercari for a few months now. Purchased and sold. I'm quite honestly always on the app, looking for certain things to buy. I have only purchased one thing since the new policy because they are actually stealing from the users. Item was $50 and ended up paying $67. Shipping was only $3.99 of that cost. Outrageous fees are the norm that just randomly change. It's absolutely horrendous and a scummy platform. Use eBay or literally anything else at this point. It's not worth it until something changes.

I have made 5 transactions in the past 2 weeks I have made 5 transactions in the last 2 weeks on Mercari. All went smoothly until the last one, when a subwoofer arrived that wasn't packed to well and was damaged. I contacted Mercari and customer service was awesome. Yes, there is payment processing fees and service fees, but I still paid less on Mercari than I would have on eBay. One of my purchases was a fairly new Denon Networking 7.1 receiver was $75 plus $40 shipping. The thing is absolutely amazing and weighs 30 lbs On eBay it was $175 plus $50 shipping! I'll pass

Seller beware! Seller beware!! I sold an authentic perfume which I have a receipt for proving it came from an authorized retailer. Upon receiving it the buyer claimed it was fake based only on it "not smelling right" and asked Mercari for a refund/return. Mercari said they were initiating a "review". There is no way to contact Mercari or add your side of the story to the review. Within a couple hours they ruled that the item was "not as listed" despite buyer images looking exactly like my listing images so clearly it was the same item I was advertising for sale. Mercari did not reach out to me for my evidence, side of the story, or proof of authenticity, which I would have happily provided. So the buyer is returning it after using some of it. I am out the cost of my packaging materials, and now have an item with less product in it that has been deemed inauthentic by Mercari despite being 100% legit. Glad it was an inexpensive item that I learned my lesson on.

False Advertising I purchased a necklace listed as an authentic Tiffany and Co. brand. In January of this year. It is now April and the silver on the necklace is tarnished. Because their policy is 15 days you have to make a complaint they can’t do anything about it at all. Not even investigate and message the seller about false advertising. A real Tiffany necklace will probably not tarnish at 15 days but did at 4 months. Ridiculous. I do not trust Mercari anymore as it appears there is no way for them to regulate the sellers items and advertising

Be very careful with the Mercari… Be very careful with the Mercari platform itself when buying or selling. The company’s A.I. Bot scans ads and transactions for activity that could be ‘construed’ as a violation thus prohibited conduct. The system will then simply shut-down your account and attempt to freeze your funds. - Escalating the situation to a human/customer service has no bearing or influence at all. - It almost seems like this is one of Mercari’s revenue streams is to shut-down account and keep your funds. I highly recommend using other well known and trustworthy platforms instead.
