About Beyond BookSmart

The nation’s leader in Executive Function coaching has been serving clients since 2006. Beyond BookSmart works with students and our WorkSmart Coaching division focuses on serving adults. Executive function coaching teaches students and adults how to organize, plan, prioritize, manage time, maintain focus, self-assess, and study efficiently. Self-management skills are increasingly important in a complex world with many distractions and competing priorities. People who learn these skills are better equipped to navigate the challenges of school and adult life. Many of our clients are bright, capable individuals in late elementary school to adults of all ages who are not achieving their potential as a result of ineffective work habits. Some have diagnoses such as ADHD or other learning differences and see coaching as excellent additional support to school-based interventions. Some of our clients have emotional challenges such as anxiety which impact their ability to work effectively. Other clients we work with have no formal diagnoses yet benefit from learning more effective ways to manage their academic or workplace demands. Our coaches work 1:1 online to help people learn how to manage their time, attention, effort, and emotions, as well as stay organized, plan and prioritize, self-advocate, and become more self-aware. Using our deep understanding of the nature of behavior change, our coaches help clients discover their own motivation to become more effective at school or at work. All of our coaches have master’s level degrees or higher (or equivalent) and have been rigorously vetted and trained, with access to over 400 tools and strategies to customize each client’s experience, according to their needs and preferences.

My son is an especially difficult case My son is an especially difficult case. Marjorie is very dedicated and has persevered keeping the long term goals in mind. She created a rapport that allows him to open up to her more than he has to anyone else. She genuinely cares.

A lifetime of benefits gained The executive function coaching that both our sons received from Beyond BookSmart literally changed their lives for the better. Not only did the coaching help them navigate academic and organizational challenges during their middle/high school years, it supported them in college and helped to develop skill sets for the working world and in life overall! We can't say enough about the team and the caring approach that benefited our sons. The investment in executive function coaching with BBS was invaluable. Years later, we still see it paying off, and the team is still just a phone call away if we ever need it.

Hit or Miss The effectiveness depends on who the coach is, rather than the BBS system per se. BBS does have a pre-match process, but it is not possible for prospective clients to get a good feel for the competence of the coach. We got a coach for my son the summer before going to college and he had the same coach through the first half of the Fall Semester - there was no discernible improvement and the session reports by the coach were generic (even though our son had signed for us to have access to it), making it difficult to figure out what's not working. I will give this coach a ZERO STAR. Then he got a new coach (this time we knew how to evaluate better), and within a few sessions, the difference was like night & day. In addition, the change continues to improve. This 2nd coach deserves FIVE STARS.

Yes, try it. I have had two of my kids use Beyond Booksmart within the last few years. The staff and EF coaches are responsive and caring. BBS was an integral part of my daughter learning to work through her challenges. With her coach's perspective in the mix we were able to see the situation more broadly. My daughter changed from the prep school she was in to a voc tech. She is now a high school junior, an honors student, takes AP English and last summer did a two week precollege program at Harvard University. A long way from wondering if she was going to have to repeat eigth grade. My son is in college and was having executive functioning challenges. He's only been using the program for a few weeks, but seem to be getting something out of it as well. In his case he was not enthusiastic about his first match from our initial interview. BBS worked with us to find another match that he's much more responsive to.

Beginning the process... The process for finding a coaching match went very well. We are still in the process of learning all the executive function skills that my college aged child with ADHD needs, but so far so good! Love the ease of the portal.
