About Happen To Your Career

You've landed on this little piece of the internet because you're not totally happy with your career (obviously!). You also know that there “has to be something out there that's better.” That hope that you can find meaningful and fulfilling work that also pays you well has led you here! Here's the thing we know from directly helping thousands of people all over every corner of the world: You're right! It not only exists, but there's a better way to get there. In fact there's many better ways to narrow down what creates fulfilling work for you and then make it happen (which is kind of our gig). It's not easy, but our students and clients tell us it's worth it!

Great team! The collective team at HTYC is fantastic. Throughout the process, I felt well-supported. Even in cases in which I need a course correction to maintain the path, it was handled with respect and from a sense of authentic compassion and commitment for the goals I outlined. The framework, (documentation, videos and people) make it easy to succeed if you are willing to follow the process.

Happen To Your Career is INCREDIBLE Happen To Your Career has been such an eye opening experience for me! I was feeling very stuck in my career & like I couldn't make new moves forward with a clear lens. After discovering the podcast, I right away knew I needed to connect with HTYC. My experience started off with Cindy, who is such a GEM. She gave me hope & helped me see my potential in our discussions. I'm really thankful for her initial guidance. She paired me with coach Jesse. When I started working with Jesse I was feeling uncertain & frazzled. Through coaching, Jesse helped me see how my skills from one career I had been in almost 20 years, could translate to SO many other career paths. Now I'm feeling confident, less anxious and approaching new career experiences with the bright light Jesse saw within me all along . I'd recommend Jesse as a coach to anyone and I'm so thankful I found Happen To Your Career this past year. The company & all their team members are incredible humans I am lucky to have met.

Putting Advice into Action I had an opportunity to take some of the advice I received from Phillip as part of my coaching in the Fall of 2022 and put it into action. I actually got a call back from a job I interviewed for 2 months earlier and didn’t get. I guess I did really well in the interview and they put me on a shortlist for any future openings (which is often the case in the public sector). Since I had already interviewed, things were going to progress straight to the initial offer. To make sure I was ready, I consulted my ideal career profile and assessed my current working situation (which wasn’t great) to determine my salary range. Since public sector salaries are generally governed by policies and collective bargaining agreements, I anticipated that the initial offer would be quite low. In fact, it was $20,000 less than what I was making at my current gig! Since I was desperate to get out, I might have just went along with the initial offer, fearing that they might rescind the offer if I tried to negotiate to a higher salary. Thanks to my chats with Phillip and the modules recorded by Scott, I knew the importance of being honest with myself and what my bare minimum to shift jobs would be (despite my desperation!). Despite REALLY wanting out, I knew I'd also be miserable if I took this gig and was earning less in an inflationary economy! By being intentional and planning ahead, I was able to establish a range that would allow me to get a bump in salary (even when factoring my performance raise at my previous job) without putting the recruiter off. I presented this to them in an honest and transparent way by letting them know where I was now in my current salary range and where they’ll need to be for me to accept the offer. In the end, they met me at the lower end of what I proposed. Nonetheless, by doing the work in advance, I was satisfied with the result because it satisfied two important criteria I established: getting out of my current job and getting a salary bump. Having that knowledge from HTYC really gave me the confidence to approach this situation in a systematic way. Without it, I may have taken a significant pay cut out of desperation or compelled them to rescind the offer because my demands were too high. Salary negotiation is just a microcosm of what you’ll learn at HTYC! When you take the time to set parameters for your ‘ideal job’ (location, salary, commute times, etc.), the ‘overwhelm’ that can accompany these kinds of decisions is reduced significantly!

So glad I contacted HTYC when I did So glad I contacted HTYC when I did. Phillip helped me out of one of the hardest periods of my life - I was struggling with burnout from a previous job and needed a new position, but one that wouldn’t leave me in the same position as I had been in. That’s a tricky situation to be in as I needed to do some self- and job- exploration, but was also under a time constraint to get a new job. Phillip helped to keep me motivated, encouraged, on-track and was empathetic and understanding of the struggles I was going through. Without his guidance and valuable job-search techniques, I wouldn’t have landed the job I’m in today. It’s VERY well suited to me, and I even received $8,000 more than my target salary (which was also $7,000 higher than my previous salary). It’s been 1 year in my new position and I’m happier than ever. Thank you Phillip!
