About Hear and Play Music

At Hear and Play Music and the Gospel Music Training Center, our passion is helping musicians worldwide unlock the art of playing the piano by ear. Founded in 2000 by Jermaine Griggs, we have dedicated decades to teaching the dynamic skill of understanding and interpreting music through ear training, music theory, and recognizing patterns. Our focus is on soulful music genres that best express this art form, including gospel, jazz, blues, soul, R&B, and pop. We believe that playing by ear transcends traditional music learning methods, allowing musicians to experience and express music in a deeply personal way. Our specialized approach teaches students to hear recurring themes in songs and interpret them creatively on the piano. Over the years, we have reached and serviced more than 2 million musicians through various platforms, including YouTube, Facebook, Instagram, our email newsletter, free lessons, comprehensive paid courses, and a personalized coaching program. I love the interaction between the… I love the interaction between the coaches and students. I believe there needs to be more ear training. I came into the program thinking we were going to learn mostly how to play by ear. Although I appreciate what I have learned, learning by ear is mostly why I participated in this program

Hear and Play, Play and Hear Hear and Play is a very comprehensive music program which covers theory as well as how to play the instruments. The instructors are excellent and very receptive to answering questions. They demonstrate the skills, give musical examples, have live performances and post past performances and workshops. Hear and Play also has courses that you can do individually at anytime of the day or night, again very comprehensive. There are daily chats and a Friday Night Fellowship where we praise God and share songs we've been practicing. Even on zoom, the Spirit of God shines through and is felt.

Lifetime Member As a lifetime member, I have enjoyed the new GMTC app in comparison to the old website. There are a variety of courses and lessons to learn how to play piano by ear from this app. I have learned a lot of theory from the lessons; and there is even now a daily chat available for anyone to get extra support and share their learning process. I always like seeing the new content being posted on the GMTC learning platform. Thank you Jermaine Griggs, Jonathan Powell, Dr. Onye, and Brian for providing a great Gospel Piano Training Program!

Excellent curriculum Excellent curriculum, environment with extremely knowledgeable teachers and coaches. If you really want to learn how to play Gospel music by ear, this program will do that and more. It provides a strong music theory, ear training etc. Loved it.
