Ultimately failed Zinstall seemed fairly easy per sales pitch, but I wanted to leave some files out of the transfer due to space limitations, and I ran into problems. At first, the problems had to be due to not shutting down security options, so I wrote support. They agreed and kindly send me the upgraded version for free cause I’d tried to shut everything down. That ran into other problems. Now I’m trying one last time and it’s been looping on the “validating” step at 99% for several hours. I’ve been using and moving laptop data since the mid 1980s. Why does everyone keep creating more difficult programs under the guise of ‘improving’ them? Two stars was due to their nice Support, but after the initial problem, they just kept giving me the same solution which was irrelevant at that point. Programming keeps getting worse each decade. The biggest companies are some of the worst. At least back in the 80s we had manuals with the software that was written with programmers. Now they have “support” sites where the only help is from other customers. Considering how wealthy these companies are, you’d think they’d care more about customer service. They don’t.

Saved countless hours of work and frustration! I recently had a small batch of ten-year-old Windows 10 desktop computers, each of which needed to be replaced with computers capable of running Windows 11 and, hopefully, beyond. Each of the old computers had multiple user profiles, different software applications and different databases. Even with over 50 years’ computer experience, I knew it was time to call in some help. I couldn’t afford the estimated time and expense of setting up each new machine, reinstalling all the necessary software and making sure that each of the various databases was accessible. Zinstall to the rescue! The only thing required of me was to do the initial setup on each of the new Windows 11 computers. The setup involved first appeasing Microsoft, adding an administrative profile, and connecting each old/new pair to both the internet and to my local area network (LAN). Once done, the Zinstall WinWin software was installed on the first set of old/new computers, the program was activated and the “go button” pressed. Approximately 4.5 hours later the first of the new Windows 11 computers was ready to go. No changes were made to the old Windows 10 computer, therefore it’s capable of serving as a good backup if needed. I repeated the process on the remaining pairs of computers during the next several days. Each transfer was completed successfully without any major issues. Any applications not compatible with Windows 11 (very few) were either updated, replaced, or done away with entirely. The good news for Quicken users, even that program, along with its associated database transferred without a hitch! Because of the differences between each set of computers, there were some minor “cleanup” issues to handle. A couple of Corel apps need to be reactivated, Outlook needed a couple of minor tweaks and Windows File Explorer continued showing a couple of virtual drives used by Zinstall during the transfer process. The latter of which required a quick email message to the Zinstall support folks for the solution. Unfortunately, HP has apparently decided to stop supporting some of its perfectly serviceable devices. This meant I had to turn to a third-party vendor for an additional piece of software to restore access to an HP LaserJet G4050 scanner. With regards to Zinstall Support: in addition to being lightning fast to respond to my email messages, their solutions are right on target. I relied on their support both during the initial planning process and to resolve the issue with multiple ghost drives appearing in Windows File Explorer. Bottom line: if I had to do it all over again, I wouldn’t hesitate to use Zinstall for the job. They’ve saved me countless hours of work and frustration!

What is your time worth? What is your time worth... $10hr, $20, $30....etc? How many hours would it take you to load a new computer with all your files, programs, apps, SW, contacts, favorites and even screen setups.... 5 hours, 10 hours or lasting over into days? I too was weighting the cost/benefits of buying Zinstall versus lower cost alternatives, but I'm glad I bought Zinstall. It was simple, seamless and precisely thorough. It tirelessly (Zinstall, not me!) ran for 7 hours overnight without any interjection required by me. Surprise, surprise, in the morning I had a mirror image of my old laptop on a new laptop, ready to use... and I didnt break a sweat! That's called a positive ROI! David, Haddonfield NJ

I had some trouble transferring my data… I had some trouble transferring my data because of slow WIFI speed at the first location. The following day, at a better location, I then had trouble getting one computer to recognize the other. I contacted Zinstall rep through their link and they directed me how to resolve the issue. Their patience and help to teach this ''old dog'' new tricks is greatly appreciated. Their customer service Rep--Joe--was above and beyond any assistance I've had from other firms. Thank you.

Superb communication Superb communication, I was not sure if I needed assisted or self managed migration. The product was superb and transferred everything in minutes. As described, when the target PC was turned onn it looked exactly like the source with everything in place!
