Why? My comment on yahoo was rejected by OpenWeb. The comment was "Why?" No kidding. That was all I said.

Hey OpenWeb, Hey OpenWeb, Please tell me how the below quoted comments violate ANY sort of 'community guidlines' on the Yahoo platform: "Refer to Arizona Revised Statutes 13-3841 through 13.3870.02 and 18 USC 3182." "You should look up Arizona law regarding extradidtion before complaing about a "koolaid drinking DA" and precedence. Just to make it easy: 18 USC 3841 and ARS 18-3841 through 12.2870.02 are the relevant Statutes." Please note that 'koolaid drinking...' is a quote from the post being replied to. "That is what is required under Arizona law. NYS made the mistake of trying to bully their way into getting the suspect in violation of the ARS."

Pros and Cons, mostly Pros I spend a lot of my time arguing politics online. Yes, I realize that's pathetic. Anyway, OpenWeb is my favorite comment engine so far. The inline editing and ease of following the conversations are superior to both Disqus and LiveFyre. The email links bring you straight to the relevant comment and and open editing window so that you can write your reply quickly. Selecting text brings up a pop-up menu that allows you to change font effects (bold/italic, etc), which is much better than any existing product. My only complaint is that you can't write a reply email and have it automatically post to the site. That would obviously reduce traffic on the client website so it won't be implemented by any comment engine. ever. But it would be nice.

OUTRAGEOUS AND ILL-JUDGED CENSORSHIP AOL News contained a piece about elderly people being alone and lonely at Christmas, and suggesting ways to help them. A response was posted that included an incomplete telephone number for Re-engage, who help such people. I posted the correct telephone number and my post was rejected. OpenWeb's bots would obviously prefer that elderly people remain lonely - obviously programmed by a very mean-spirited geek.

They don't stop hate speech Openweb are astonishingly bad at their stated mission of curtailing hate speech and harassment. Reporting has no impact regardless of how vile or callous someone behaves. Worse than that, they deliberately make it hard or impossible to send them feedback so they don't have to acknowledge what a bad job they're doing. Comments sections moderated by Openweb are some of the worst I've ever seen on the internet.
