Guidelines not user friendly and missing info and steps I found that the guidelines were not instructive as there were many missing steps. Also the instructions are written up by IT specialists rather than from a user perspective. There is a lot of jargon that international students are not familiar with. The instructions didnt always to correlate with what I found on the screen. It turned out to be a nightmare. I had to reach out daily to IIE for help. The online bot was basically useless and unable to answer any of my questions. Each time I though I was done, I found that I wasnt. Something was missing, or I had to wait for an ITIN number or something and something…the nightmare wasnt ending. I am curious to find out the percentage of students who are actually successful in completing this process.

She took the time and patience to answer me in a detailed way on my healthcare questions ( specific regulations in some states, my changing status of visiting scholar during the year). I wish I had met her in the beginning and not in the end of my research stay to prevent a healthcare penalty, while nevertheless having a very good insurance covering everything but from abroad!
