I have used TaxAct for 8 yrs I have used TaxAct for 8 yrs. For 2020, they went to zero phone support so they are now stuck with major poor reviews from users who can't check their experience with a support person to validate. For me and my business, their platform cannot provide the flexibility to handle business 1099-INT's correctly so I won't be able to use it again. The form doesn't allow altering the tax ID to the lending business. The result is that interest shows up on the personal Schedule B instead of the business Schedule C.

TaxAct does not e-file for free, despite being an IRS free file partner TaxAct is listed under the IRS trusted partners for free E-filing of your tax return. I fulfilled the criteria for free filing but they still tried to charge me $50 to file the foreign income tax exclusion form, which means it is not a free file program. It is also impossible to delete your account without contacting the company, which is difficult when you are living abroad. Please avoid TaxAct if you are trying to use the IRS free file offer.

Evil new podcast ads talk about how much Taxact hates doing taxes whilst being the lobbyists who insist laws exist to make the taxes impossible to do. Evil.

Absolute SCAM!! Absolute SCAM!!! Please be warned, it all looks good then you pay, thinking you are set. After you pay is when they completely fail you. They take you money then screw you.

I used taxact many years ago and it… I used taxact many years ago and it worked fine. And this year (for tax year 2023) I paid $80 to file for my father, who got a couple 1042-S forms. All the gross income I put in on the 10420-S forms are not reflected at all in the final electronic filing, and the return was rejected by IRS immediately. I triple, yes triple checked everything and there's no mis-typing or anything, and the gross income just does not reflect on the return at all. I called TaxAct and basically what I got is "please pay us another $40 to use our expert help to fix the issue", what? I have to pay more in order to fix TaxAct issues?? Okay see you no more.
