be careful with this company I complete my 2023 return and they tell you on the site that I have to pay for e-file after a paid when I send the file it was rejected and I have to do it again to correct my AGI from last year. In the website they inform me that I have to pay again but that my credit card will not be charge twice. Well it ended that they charge my card three times and I have to call the bank to dispute the transactions so be careful they do charge you again if you have to resend the income tax. They lie showing that they will not charge you twice, they do I have proof.

TaxAct does not e-file for free, despite being an IRS free file partner TaxAct is listed under the IRS trusted partners for free E-filing of your tax return. I fulfilled the criteria for free filing but they still tried to charge me $50 to file the foreign income tax exclusion form, which means it is not a free file program. It is also impossible to delete your account without contacting the company, which is difficult when you are living abroad. Please avoid TaxAct if you are trying to use the IRS free file offer.

Bait & Switch - FEE SCAM I have been using TaxAct for years. I have usually taken advantage of their Black Friday or Christmastime offers, where you can lock in a cheap price, to be paid later on, when you are ready to file. In fact they specifically promoted this on their own website, this is exact text I copied from TaxAct's site just now - "Price Lock Guarantee Puts an End to Bait and Switch TaxAct's Price Lock Guarantee is a prime example of the company's commitment not to play "bait and switch." Customers using any online TaxAct product always pay the price listed for that product at the time they started their return, no matter when they file." Well, well, well, they will probably take down this text when they see my review, because this must be a few years old. In 2024, they have a new practice - BAIT AND SWITCH IN EXACTLY THE WAY THEY PROMISED NOT TO DO. I signed up and "locked in" a price of $12.50 federal + $22.50 state back in December....and tonight, the day taxes are due - and of course it is too close to the deadline for me to abandon them and use a different provider -- they ended up charging me $80 in total. I called to complain and a sad, exasperated helpless woman on the phone says "I was told to tell people there is no price lock guarantee." She literally said that. "Did you pay in December?" (Well, no, of course not, you only pay when you file, and nobody has any of the forms or information to actually file in December yet.). So she says "right, well, you did get the 50% off. Our email says that prices can change at any time." So I got "50% off" a jacked up 4x base fee. I'm going to do a chargeback with Amex, and file complaints with the FTC and the IRS. This is outrageous. DO NOT USE TAXACT. Also the website is pretty bad, they used to have a ton of helpful features which they actually removed, because they are trying to upsell all of the "tips" and instructions for an additional fee. Disgusting money grab.

Pick a different one I've been using Taxact yearly for quite awhile. Going to switch next year even though that's quite a hassle. The price isn't worth the never ever updated product. Taxact is NOT intuitive at all. Everything is complicated and unhelpful. The program is outdated and expensive for the lack of updates. It's no longer the cheap alternative to expensive tax programs. Avoid it.
