That doesn't mean the practices make any real sense, or make for a good consumer experience, which is what the reviewers here are rating you on. Ex: Why start an auction at a price below what is acceptable to the seller, i.e. below the reserve? Be honest about it and start it at the reserve price! Doing otherwise makes a customer feel duped. Any talk of this " helping to make a deal" is just nonsense, and smart consumers see it as an attempt to create excitement over an illusion.
