Subsequently, I was kept informed of the progress of my order, including pictures of the hat being made. PHD also supplied videos about the company and the process of hat making, which was so much more involved than I had imagined. So much goes into the production of Panama hats that I am amazed that they cost as little as they do. Excellent Handmade Panama Hats Authentic handmade Panama hats (made in Ecuador) are becoming more and more rare. Having bought several Cuenca and Montecristi hats from Panama Hats Direct, I can attest to their quality, fair pricing and service. With a small head, I mostly have to have mine made to order, which produces a hat made to specification. I have kept one Montecristi in my car in Florida for several years, and worn it constantly. While it has naturally darkened a bit, there has been no degradation or cracking of the straw.

Great company, great product This is the second hat I've purchased from PanamaHats Direct. These are the genuine article- habdmade in the traditional manner. They are not inexpensive, but sales are frequent. There is some lag time from order to shipping to recipte of the product. Once ordered, they have to finish the hat- install the sweatband and hatband, finish shaping, etc. They also bulk ship from Ecuador to the US, to simply the customs process. Once in the US, the hats are sent to the individual customers. So, expect it to take 2-4 weeks ti recieved your hat. Service is first rate, and communication is excellent
