About Spinlister

How it works for people listing: 1) Members easily sign up through our web platform, iOS app, or Android app. 2) They list their bicycles, skis, snowboards, SUPs, or surfboards with real photos, to rent to likeminded people worldwide. They set their own price, which they can also adjust per rental. 3) Users searching for equipment in their area request to rent for specified days and times. Listers can easily turn down an offer if the agreement doesn’t work for them. 4) Money is transferred securely prior to pick up, eliminating any uncomfortable conversations or non-payment. 5) Every bike listed is insured up to $5,000, skis/snowboards $1,000, and SUPs/surfboards $2,000 against theft or damage, making the experience completely safe for every person listing their gear. Both renters and listers can review each other and become verified through Facebook, Twitter, and cell phone. How it works for the renter: 1) Users search for bikes, skis, snowboards, SUPs, or surfboards in the area they wish to rent. 2) They view the equipment available in that area and make a request to rent the ride. 3) There is an in-app chat feature allowing both parties to communicate about price, components, verifications, reviews, etc. Once the lister decides they will rent the equipment to the person requesting, they “confirm” the request. 4) Renter pays for the rental and picks up their equipment at the negotiated time and place.

New owners, company not the same I have been renting my spare bikes on Spinlister for many years and had good customer service in the past. Since the website was purchased by the new owners their customer service has gone downhill. I still list on the app for one of my side gigs, but the company is not the same since the new owners took over.

Cool service. I've used this when traveling to other cities. Everything has gone pretty smoothly, and the one hiccup I had once with a bicycle owner was professionally handled by Spinlister. The long and the short of it is that I was asked to lock up the guy's bike in a certain place to leave it for him to come pick up (because my rental was over), and it was stolen because he waited 6 days to pick it up. I explained everything by email to Spinlister and that was that. I'd recommend sending a text picture of the bike locked up if the owner is asking you to lock it up somewhere at the end of the rental.

Great way to rent bikes for visiting friends I have rented bikes through Spinlister a few times and have found it to be a great way to rent bikes for friends who visit NYC. When I used it last summer, the reservation system was a little iffy, in that nothing was confirmed immediately and you had to message a number of people to find a bike. Otherwise, a totally pleasurable experience.

Fantastic ride I had an awesome time using Spinlister in SF. My only current issue is the lack of protections for riders. At this point, it seems like there's no recourse or protection in the case of a stolen bike - even if it was locked properly and you took precautions. It'd be great to have the option to opt into some insurance during the reservation. I ended up feeing a bit worried the whole trip and hoping something crazy didn't happen with the bike.

Thrilled such a site/service exists. I have only used others' bikes, not rented out my own. I had one snafu with gaining access to a bike in Portland, OR. The owner wasn't overly easy to reach, but it was resolved within an hour.
