PLEASE BEWARE PLEASE BEWARE! I do not recommend that you rent from NU Car Rentals/Horsepower Car Rental. When I booked the reservation online, my initial total was $36.10 in March of 2024. I did not purchase the online insurance because my personal car insurance covers all rentals. It is necessary to note that I have NEVER had a problem with ANY car rental companies accepting my insurance. Unfortunately, when I arrived at the rental counter, they stated that they only accepted specific insurance that did not include mine. Within a few minutes, my rental jumped from $36.10 to $196.55! This pricing difference left me feeling swindled and aggravated. After speaking to my insurance agent, he also confirmed that he has never had an issue utilizing this insurance with a car rental company. NU CAR RENTALS/HORSEPOWER CAR RENTALS IS DECEPTIVE AND A SCAM! Save yourself the frustration and rent elsewhere.

Thank you NU Car San Diego! We went through an online travel company and part of our package was a rental car through NU Car Rentals in San Diego. We were skeptical at first as we've never heard of this company. I was impressed. Check in was great. The customer service I thought was awesome. The gentleman that waited on us was more than friendly, went out of his way to assist us by answering any questions or concerns and we were in and out of there in less than 10 minutes. I added their car insurance myself with no pressure from them, decided I didn't need it and called them the next day and they removed it. I definitely will use this company again. Very good customer service … I read some reviews online about this company that were not very favorable. However my experience with them was great! I had to cancel my reservation shortly before my trip and figured I wouldn’t get a refund. I was pleasantly surprised when they refunded all of my money. Definitely going to do business with them again when I need a rental car.

John was great at check in John was great at check in. The check in was virtual (talking to a representative on a screen) I was skeptical but it went very smooth with John’s clear instructions. The little locker that pops open with the key inside is neat! I will definitely use this company again when in need of a rental car.

This company is dishonest and you will… This company is dishonest and you will find no recourse for your troubles. Do not rent from NU. They offered a nice upgrade for a fair fee but then charged the original invoice plus the full amount for the new rental. My four day rental of 23.00/day was 351.00. You cannot reach anyone who will help and they email that the charges are accurate. So I paid for 2 cars at the same time even though I only got one car. This place cannot stay in business operating like this. Don't do it.
