Scam Artists I have never written a bad review for a company before, however, I feel a moral obligation to warn potential victims about this terribly abusive and destructive business. Every 1 star review is an exact reflection of my experience. I can only conclude that the good reviews left here have been bought, as countless other victims of this company have also suggested. Black Bear up-charged my original quote by thousands of dollars upon arriving. They had unbelievably rude and disrespectful customer service. I was told repeatedly “that’s your problem, not ours” and “you’re wasting everyone's time” when asking for more information about being up-charged, or my delivery being delayed by nearly 2 months. The final result was over half of my furniture being completely ruined (see photos). This is a predatory and fraudulent company. Both my wife and I will be leaving reviews on every platform we can in addition to filing official complaints with the BBB and Attorney General of California. My attorney sent them a damages claim to which they did not respond. Full Story: Black Bear Moving came to pick up my items on July 10th 2020. Upon arrival they upcharged my original quote by thousands of dollars. They claimed I had more than the agreed upon cubic feet even though I had measured everything for the salesperson on the phone. Their van was unmarked and none of the movers had branded attire. The van had no cubes or measurements on the floor or walls to determine cubic feet. The man told me he was able to determine the exact dimensions of everything by looking at it. I had to eliminate nearly three quarters of the agreed upon items for the move by putting them into storage so as not to be charged more than I was planning. I was asked the soonest date I could receive the items which I listed as July 27th. I did not receive my items until September 21st. Prior to delivery they claimed it would be an additional $450 for drop off because their truck was unable to access my property. This was not a problem for the company that recently dropped off my 2 cars that were shipped cross country. The people I was staying with also informed me they’ve been at the property for 30 years and never had an issue with 18 wheelers making a delivery. I asked Black Bear I picked a secondary location to avoid the extra charge, how will I know it will be acceptable? They said “that’s not our problem” and I’d have to call my local police department. I did this and the police informed me that my current location should have no issue, that the company sounded as though they were being dishonest. They would not release my goods off of their truck to inspect my items until they were paid cash for the rest of the delivery. Upon receiving my goods it was immediately noticeable that over half of our items were damaged or completely ruined. Our expensive white couch looked as though it was dunked into a muddy puddle, it smelled of mold and had an irremovable stain. Our mattress was damp and smelled of mold with a water stain as well. Our dresser and nightstands were scratched and the drawers would no longer close properly. They also offloaded a chair that was not ours insisting that it was. We uncovered the moving blankets to confirm it was not our chair. Had we not said anything someone would have lost their item forever. This behavior is completely unacceptable. I paid them to ruin our furniture. If you have experienced anything like this, then I urge you to contact the California Attorney General and file complaints with the BBB, yelp etc. I will be taking every legal action possible to correct the damage that Black Bear has caused to my family's belongings. I suggest anyone considering them look elsewhere.

This is the worst company This is the worst company, along with Allegiance Moving and Storage. I wish I could leave negative stars. I booked through Allegiance Moving and Storage which a broker, keeping companies like Black Bear Moving and Storage in business. Allegiance and such brokers (all in Florida, it seems) are required by the FMCSA to publish lists of movers that they work with - but if you go to that page, it requires a password to log in. So we didn't know it was Black Bear Moving and Storage until the day before our move. Alex M and Victor Diaz manned the phone lines for Black Bear and Ashely from Allegiance chimed in to haggle with us. Sam, the driver and agent who never signed his name on the bill of lading, did the work of telling us that our cubic feet, and thus our price, was twice what Allegiance had quoted us with a BINDING ESTIMATE. The whole purpose of a binding estimate is that it doesn't change. Here's their approach: Allegiance gives the customer an online quote that is seriously under what it would cost. You can look online for approximate cubic feet for a two bedroom, studio, etc... once they have worn you down over the price - the smarter people walk away and have time to get another company or a pod, but if you need to leave by a specific date, you are not going to be able to drop a move. Then, exhausted from haggling, it's shockingly easy to just sign where "Sam" says. Always go for full insurance. Always. Once our things were loaded, we were told 8-14 days. Allegiance had said 5-7. The contract says 30 business days. It also says that by signing the original contract with Allegiance that the customer waived the right to an on-site inventory, which, by law, the local moving company is required to do if registered with the FMCSA, which both companies are. Up until now, this was on me - rushed and not realizing I was getting scammed. But when we needed our things and I realized that I messed up - it does say 30 business days, I realized that I needed to get a uhaul and get our work materials to our new home to be able to do our jobs. I didn't initially ask for money back. I just wanted to know where my belongings were and pick them up. That was it. I called to cancel. Black Bear was initially fine with that, it seemed, but then Víctor told me that I had a balance. That wasn't true because I had paid 70% of the overall cost and by law, they were required to relinquish my things. Then it got really fishy. I got an email from Janet Spencer at Black Bear telling me that my things were safe in Washington and would be one their way to me in Texas. I moved from California. Why is my stuff in Washington? And I'm not moving to Texas. Then, Allegiance called. Tried to convince me that my things would be to me faster than I could come and get them. But I had a uhaul and upack trailer booked already. And I was now very worried that my things were already trashed or missing, as other reviews of Black Bear chillingly attest. Black Bear was not getting back to me about the cancellation form or where my things were. I was told that "we are working on it" when I called. It's a standard form. Why was it taking so long? At the end of the day on Friday, August 14, 2020. Alex M (smart that he doesn't leave his last name, if that is his name at all...) sent a cancellation form that had no company name on it, no MC or DOT number on it. Since I had put it in writing and argued with Allegiance about the 70% payment and law to relinquish my things, they had to acknowledge it. But, here's the kicker: by signing I have up my rights to file any complaints with federal, state or local agencies, I was not to report the existence of this cancellation form or report to credit card companies or consumer reviews. Well, I went from "I messed up and didn't read the contract right on the 30 business days" to "I'm being scammed." Black Bear pays people to write good reviews, so a quick search won't give you the full picture. I fell for it. Now I've filed with the FMCSA, the CA department of justice for consumer protection and the CA bureau for the protection of household goods. I will also be taking legal action. I'm hoping that my lawyer will be able to connect with all the other people who are also seeking damages from Black Bear Moving and Storage (also, try googling their location...)

NOPE. STAY AWAY. My experience has been a joke with this company. Talked to their sales rep Quinn and got an estimate for $2250.00 for a cross country move. My list of items stayed pretty accurate throughout the process. I estimated my total to be around $3500 at the end of the day. Moving day comes and the driver gives me another quote of $9500. I laughed then complained. Driver gives me his best price of $8800. I'm pissed so I call the company and talk to Alex. He gives me his best price of $6800. How many prices are you going to give me? How many times are you trying to price gauge people? I cancelled and said they lost my business. Alex said he will refund my $95 deposit tmrw...but reading other reviews stating how they will lie and not refund makes me believe I need to call my credit card company instead of waiting for them to refund. Stay away. Buyer be aware. Wasted my time! FOLLOW UP This is a follow up from my experience with Black Bear Moving. Since my last experience with them, I have left a 1 star review on Yelp. Black Bear contacted me to offer $500 to take down my negative review. Their form is attached below. I refused their $500 to save everyone thousands. They have a bad reputation and paying me $500 to take it down is one way to control their ratings/reviews. So, just imagine what they do about the positive 5 star ratings. If they are paying me to take down negative reviews, do you think they will pay someone to put up the positive ones?Stay away and hire a reputable company. Black Bear is definitely not it.

Black Bear will F#%$& you over. Black Bear is the WORST company I have ever interacted with, and that is not a statement I use lightly. I’m easily pleased, I’m a generally positive person. But the lying, thieving, and mismanagement of this company is BEYOND ME. I was quoted for 1800, then after they picked up my items they charged me 2500 and refused to explain why when I said that was outrageous. My items were shipped over A MONTH later than the date they gave me and my dresser, table, and my nightstand we’re damaged. The table is unusable and the dressers will last a few months more as long as the cracks and chips don’t wear too badly. They lost an ENTIRE box of my items, containing sentimental things I’ve owned since I was very young and have no idea where it is and refuse to help. They have offered no help, no refund, and even under new management all they are doing is trying to sweep everything under the rug. DO NOT TRUST THIS COMPANY. I wish I listened to the reviews before me and stayed the hell away. Don’t be like me, STAY THE HELL AWAY!

Update: STILL BEWARE Update: A Black Bear Moving & Storage representative told myself & the BBB he would "GIVE" me a Courtesy Credit of $1100, if I removed what Black Bear deemed as a negative review on Yelp/Social Media. I guess he was having a moment! I the customer paid for 1000CF but utilized 800CF. I the customer paid Black Bear to a job and it was done unsatisfactory. I the customer have a duty to inform the people of my experience so, if someone chooses to use Black Bear "BEWARE". They dissemble furniture and did not reassemble upon delivery; a service that I paid for. Do what you advertise Black Bear Moving & Storage and you will get better reviews! Posted on Yelp 5/18/2020 Beware! Don't trust or use this Company, I used Black Bear Moving & Storage in March 2020 on pick-up it was Black Bear Movers (non uniforms, non Black Bear trucks) upon delivery it was a different moving company. Paid for 1000 CF used 800 CF, Black Bear is refusing to refund the non-used CF. Upon delivery the contracted out Company started & then refused to re-assemble any furniture that was disassemble on pick-up. I have filed a complaint with the BBB and will be seeking a civil lawsuit against Black Bear Moving & Storage. If you don't want additional frustration in your life pick a different moving company.
