Dehumidifier performance We hired 2 commercial dehumidifiers from the Ipswich branch when our son's bungalow was flooded. We were assured that these would work at temperatures of above 3 degrees. In the 3 days we had them they collected in total less than one bucket full each, The daytime temperatues in the bungalow were 10 to 12 degrees and the night time temperatures above 3 degrees. For this we were charged a full weeks rental of over £150. A total rip-off for 2 buckets of water. Our own domestic dehumidifiers we also used picked up twice the amount of water. On speaking to Hirebase we were told no compensation was possible as the invoice had already been issued. Be very careful when hiring from this company.

Potentially a scam business I think this business might even be based on scamming. How can you take hire fees and deposits for equipment they know they don’t have? Weeks later we have still not been repaid, and despite unconvincing excuses and promises I suspect I’ll be taking them to court. Don’t touch with a barge pole!

Hired a plate compactor online Hired a plate compactor online. At completion it said I would receive an email for confirmation. No email. Phoned the branch "oh yeah don't worry you don't need that, we have your order". Went to collect on the Saturday & no staff on the hire desk. The 3 employees from the build side couldn't do anything. Took over an hour to get it sorted. On return there were "system issues" which meant after 45 minutes they couldn't return my deposit. "We'll get it sorted and call you" I was assured. I've been chasing them for 3 days and still haven't had my deposit returned.

PORTSMOUTH HIREBASE are ACE!!! Cannot praise the Pompey lads for all their help! We hired a sander package and the equipment was clean, up to date and first rate. Helped us out to car and lifted it in... as pensioners we need all the help we can get! They are very friendly and so nice to see smiles on their faces and a ‘CAN DO’ attitude! I’ve used other local hire companies and these lads top the lot for equipment, helpfulness and professionalism! Together with BuildBase it’s a terrific combination. VERY HIGHLY RECOMMENDED!
