Convenient Easy to use, and it was good to be able to download the various ebook formats in one place. I wish though there wasn't a time limit (due to various device issues, accidents, etc) on retrieving the books if you have paid for them, but I have no good or neat recommendation for handling this situation.

Avoid vendor lock-in with Apress PDF books Apress is the best place to buy computer programming ebooks because they are available in PDF format that can be viewed on any device. I recently wanted to clear my purchase history on Amazon and my only option was to delete my Amazon account and make a new one. I lost several books in the process. Now I try to buy only PDF books exclusively. Apress also has a wide selection of books on almost any programming topic. I have found them to be very informative.

Good books, mediocre customer service The books are fine, but customer service is very slow at answering questions or resolving issues. Courteous, but ponderous. Expect to wait a long time and even then not get a clean resolution. As an example, I've been waiting for them to process a refund for a couple weeks now, and their most recent message was an apology that they still can't get things working correctly on their end. May be simpler to buy their products on Amazon or other distributor instead.

Something not quite right I've purchased books from a lot of sites, and many times from APress, but there was a book that I had in my cart, and every time I tried to buy it it said I couldn't, no explanation, it was in my cart, but then bounced out at the point where I wanted to complete the purchase. I managed to buy another book, so it wasn't the site having issues (broadly).

Pretty Good Site and Products, but Could be Better Pretty Good Site and Products, but Could be Better. For the most part, I'm fairly happy with Apress! They have pretty good coverage for most of the tech topics I'm interested in, and even a couple of authors whose books I buy as a given, every year. I would love to see some deep dives into topics like real-word redux, and full-stack JavaScript and DevOps projects with non-trivial examples that are not just regurgitations of online documentation.
