About Hear and Play Music

At Hear and Play Music and the Gospel Music Training Center, our passion is helping musicians worldwide unlock the art of playing the piano by ear. Founded in 2000 by Jermaine Griggs, we have dedicated decades to teaching the dynamic skill of understanding and interpreting music through ear training, music theory, and recognizing patterns. Our focus is on soulful music genres that best express this art form, including gospel, jazz, blues, soul, R&B, and pop. We believe that playing by ear transcends traditional music learning methods, allowing musicians to experience and express music in a deeply personal way. Our specialized approach teaches students to hear recurring themes in songs and interpret them creatively on the piano. Over the years, we have reached and serviced more than 2 million musicians through various platforms, including YouTube, Facebook, Instagram, our email newsletter, free lessons, comprehensive paid courses, and a personalized coaching program. A wonderful experience Hear and Play has been a wonderful experience. The TEAM is patient and understanding no matter your expertise. They are always willing to offer a heart of compassion and encouragement on your journey level. Take your time and go through the information. The training is beneficial. If you have questions or concerns about your progress, they are a text, email, or call away. You can volunteer to participate in recitals or just show support to someone else. Thank you, Jermaine Griggs and the entire team including the persons who worked in the background when I didn't know they were there.

Wonderful experience! Wonderful experience! I found Hear and Play website around 2010, when I was looking up a new way to learn melodies and chords on piano. I hadn't played the piano in 25 years. With Mr Griggs I learned to understand the magic of chords, dissonances, slash chords, the process of progressions and many more stuff to increase my playing. I truly recommend the gospel video series 202, it's an amazing way to learn gospel music from the teaching of Mr Griggs. I have no words to thank Hear and Play in my formation as an amateur pianist. Congratulations!!!

Excellent curriculum Excellent curriculum, environment with extremely knowledgeable teachers and coaches. If you really want to learn how to play Gospel music by ear, this program will do that and more. It provides a strong music theory, ear training etc. Loved it.

I love learning new songs and being… I love learning new songs and being taught what I am playing I just wish I could spend more time practicing but I’m working it! Thanks GMTC all of you are so beneficial to the cause!

I believe I will eventually be able to apply the concepts I was encouraged by seeing the recital. I’m still struggling because I can’t write out the notes fast enough to practice the riffs, ups and downs techniques for each progressions. I am visual and learning to be audible. I want to purchase that technology that I’ve seen clients use to help with a particular song. “Mixiology and transformer.
