Highly unreliable Highly unreliable: sometimes transfers are made in hours/minutes, sometimes days go by with no action and just template/standard responses from support that the transfer is on schedule and on the way. How a service can be so poorly run is beyond me. Xoom mentions that the transfers are carried out by a "partner", and I have come to assume that means that the actual work has been outsourced to some low-income country with less than skilled staff. If possible, avoid this service.

I simply wanted to transfer some money… I simply wanted to transfer some money to a relative, who lives in the same country as I do. Little did I know I'd there'd be an unspecified delay caused by inexplicable security checks. With no help from their 'helpdesk', I eventually cancelled the transfer, thinking I could send the money more quickly by a bicycle courier. Two days later neither my relative nor I have access to my money. Xoom is sitting on it while they process my cancellation. Really, AVOID using this company.

Excellent! Try it out with a small amount first. After looking at the reviews for another company (that offers a slightly better rate), I came to check out those of Xoom.com for comparison. I was appalled by the abundance of 1-star reviews for Xoom, so I wrote mine. I have used Xoom for over three years and found their service exemplary! Some (or many) people have had disappointing experiences. But apparently, those with positive experiences don't bother with writing reviews. I typically transfer money from the USA to India. In over 90% of the cases, the transfer was completed within 15 minutes and has never taken more than four hours. The tracking process is transparent. Also, the recipient and I receive an SMS when the process is completed. I am pleased. I found another company with better exchange rates. But I don't want to risk moving away from Xoom.
